Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and raised by the multiracial, mixed-ethnic family. Jacqueline's father Elroy is from Sri Lanka (Catholic Sinhalese) and her mother, Kim is a Malaysian. Jacqueline is the oldest of two brothers and a younger sister. It was because of the war that raged in Lanka that her parents chose to move to Bahrain. Her schooling was completed in Bahrain and she was awarded a Scholarship to attend at the University of Sydney. There she graduated with a Media and Communications degree. Passionate about the languages and culture inspired her to enroll in the Berlitz language school where she improved her French as well as Arabic as she learned Spanish. In 2006, she was crowned Miss Sri Lanka. Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March 2006 and also competed in Miss Universe 2006. In the wake of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working on television. She hosted the show Lanka Business Report which focused on Sri Lankan Business. Padukone (the daughter of badminton player Prakash Padukone) was born and grew up in Bangalore. When she was a teenager she was a badminton player in National level competitions. She later resigned her profession in sports to become a fashion model. Padukone is a native of Mangalorean roots and speaks Konkani as her native language. Padukone Village is located in Kundapura Taluk within the Udupi Distric of Karnataka within India. Prakash Padukone is her father as well as a former badminton pro who has international acclaim. Her mother is an agent for travel.
